Our mission is to give pugs in need a safe, healthy, and happy future. We rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome pugs from surrenders, shelters and other unsafe situations, ensuring they receive the love and care they deserve.
Since 2003, we have been known as Pug Rescue of Florida, a non-profit 501(c)3 animal rescue organization, EIN: 14-1866385. In 2021 we obtained our license as an official Georgia foster-based rescue organization and are now officially recognized as Pug Rescue of Florida & Georgia (PRFG).
We operate through an organized network of volunteers and foster homes and sustain our operations through fundraising efforts and the generous financial support of private individuals and commercial entities. PRFG rescues approximately 175 pugs/pug mixes each year, incurring over $300,000 in annual expenses to save the lives of these precious pugs.
Our commitment to the well-being of every pug goes far beyond the standard rescue protocol. While many rescues focus on basic vaccinations, spaying/neutering, and finding new homes, we take a more comprehensive approach to ensure each pug's immediate and long-term health needs are met. At PRFG, we take the time to thoroughly evaluate each pug that comes into our care. Our dedicated volunteers address any immediate medical concerns and provide overall assessments to ensure every pug is given the best chance at a happy and healthy life. We believe that every pug deserves specialized attention, which is why we are meticulous about their care. This includes detailed health evaluations, necessary medical treatments, and ongoing support.
We are passionately committed to the pug breed and the well-being of every pug we foster; this deep love and commitment drives us to go the extra mile. Pugs often require more medical attention than other breeds, and we are here to provide that extra care. We ensure that each pug is placed in a loving home that understands and is prepared to maintain the high level of care these wonderful dogs need. We believe that every pug deserves a chance to thrive, and we are here to make that happen.
Join us in our mission to give these wonderful dogs the happy, healthy lives they deserve.

We were recently invited to join the Canine Culture Podcast to talk about life in rescue, the challenges we face, and the incredible dogs who make it all worthwhile.
It was a chance to share the heart of our mission, the joy of rescue, and plenty of funny and heartfelt pug stories. Take a listen, enjoy the stories, and please share it with your friends and family - you never know who might be inspired to join our mission!

2025 was our 22nd year of operation. The support of our donors, fosters, volunteers, and adopters made it possible to rescue 28 more pugs in 2025 than in 2024.
Some major surgeries included: liver shunt, orthopedic, pyometra, mass removal, bladder stones, cataracts, entropion, eye enucleation and more...
All adopted pugs will have received full veterinary care: Vaccines, spay/neuter, heartworm/urine/fecal tests, bloodwork, treatment for known illnesses/injuries, dental cleaning/extractions.
Every number tells a story: a life saved, a tail wagged, a second chance earned. Because of you, obstacles became outcomes and countless pugs now have a future filled with comfort, care, and love.
As we step into our 23rd year of rescue in 2026, we’re proud to keep moving forward with the same heart and purpose. Here’s to another year of changing lives, one pug at a time.
Please consider a donation - no matter the size - to ensure we can continue this lifesaving work in 2026.
